How to include a Virtual Security Team in your proposal
As you write your proposal, you may identify cybersecurity challenges where the expertise and resources of a Virtual Security Team, Research Security Operations Center, or both, would be helpful. ResearchSOC can provide resources via a subcontract and can provide a customized letter of collaboration. Including cybersecurity in your grant is both best practice and a requirement for many grants. Indicating your intent to engage with ResearchSOC indicates in your proposal that you both recognize the challenge and take it seriously.
Reach out to us. Contact us at rsoc@iu.edu. Our team has broad and deep experience with a wide spectrum of research projects and can help you appropriately size the cybersecurity effort.
Indicate your intent to approach the ResearchSOC. We invite proposing NSF CI projects to indicate their intention to approach ResearchSOC once they are funded. ResearchSOC resources and staff are available to assist NSF projects with either a Security Operations Center, Virtual Security Team, or both. Proposers are free to include language showing an awareness of cybersecurity of a specific issue and showing you are aware of ResearchSOC, how we can help, and that you plan to approach us if funded to collaborate on addressing the issue. You can do this unilaterally without any commitment from Research SOC, and please be aware it does not commit Research SOC. We ask that you let us know if you reference ResearchSOC. Possible language to include in a proposal is available, simply contact us.
Include ResearchSOC in your proposal. You can include either the Research Security Operations Center, Virtual Security Team, or both in your proposal via a subcontract, a process that provides a firm commitment of our participation. Please contact us at least one week in advance of your submission date to discuss what level of services would be most appropriate. In this case, we would provide a customized letter of collaboration indicating our agreement to the terms of the subcontract.
Communication is key! ResearchSOC services, both in the Security Operations Center and in Virtual Security Teams, are tuned to the needs of individual projects based on size, complexity, compliance and regulatory requirements, and other factors. Contact us early in your process to discuss how the ResearchSOC can help.
